The Honeywell Experion PKS process control system is a remote analog and digital input/output (I/O) module.

I/O Type: RUSIO – Redundant Universal Serial Input/Output. This means:

Redundancy: This module supports redundant configuration (requires use with a redundant FIM – Field Interface Module). If the primary module fails, the backup module automatically and seamlessly switches over, ensuring high availability and safety of process control.

Universal: Each channel on the module can be flexibly configured via software to support various signal types, including:

Analog Input: Receives 4-20mA or 0-10V signals from temperature, pressure, flow, or level transmitters.

Analog Output: Outputs a 4-20mA signal to control valve travel or motor speed.

Digital Input: Receives contact signals (on/off) from pushbuttons, limit switches, and relays.

Digital Output: Outputs an on/off signal to control relays, indicator lights, or solenoid valves.

Serial: This refers to the module exchanging data with the upper-level controller via a serial communication bus (usually Foundation Fieldbus or Profibus), reducing wiring complexity.

Number of Channels: 32 – This module provides 32 independent input/output channels. However, please note that these 32 channels are “universal,” meaning you cannot use all 32 channels as analog outputs simultaneously. The specific channel allocation (number of AI, AO, DI, and DO) depends on software configuration and the physical limitations of the module.
