ABB REB670 is an intelligent relay protection device that integrates busbar differential protection, circuit breaker protection and other auxiliary functions.

 

1.Main Functions and Protection Features
As a busbar protection device, its core and most important function is differential protection.

Busbar Differential Protection:

Principle: By comparing the vector sum of all currents flowing into and out of the busbar (Kirchhoff’s current law), it determines whether a fault (such as a phase-to-phase short circuit or ground fault) has occurred within the busbar area.

Features: The REB670’s differential protection algorithm is extremely fast and reliable, offering extremely high safety (no false tripping) and sensitivity (no false tripping). It can isolate the faulty busbar in an extremely short time (typically tens of milliseconds), preventing the fault from escalating and ensuring grid stability and equipment safety.

Circuit Breaker Failure Protection:

When the system issues a trip command and the corresponding circuit breaker fails to open due to mechanical or electrical failure, the BFP activates, tripping all other source-side circuit breakers connected to that breaker to completely isolate the fault.

2.Automatic Reclosing:

Applicable to busbar sectionalizers or tie switches with circuit breakers, it automatically recloses the circuit breaker for transient faults based on programmed logic, quickly restoring power.

Backup Overcurrent Protection:

Provides backup protection for phase overcurrent and zero-sequence overcurrent (ground fault).

Voltage Protection:

Provides overvoltage and undervoltage protection
